Visit the Miles Historical Village, an amazing streetscape of more than 30 buildings which predominately cover a period in Queensland’s rural history from the late 1860’s to the 1950’s and have extensive local historic significance. Visit the Blackall Woolscour where, in the heart of merino country, local tour guides will take you back in time to experience the history of the wool industry and the vital role of woolscouring in Australia. We have an early start this morning for the journey to Winton. Enjoy a lovely lunch at the grand old lady of the Outback, the North Gregory Hotel. This afternoon we’ll visit the Age of Dinosaurs Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils. Set off on an original Cobb & Co Stagecoach along the original mail route to Windorah and hold your hat on a gallop through the bush. Watch the hilarious Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show, a tribute to the old travelling shows with slapstick, mayhem and animal antics. Visit a working farm where you’ll step into the shoes of a family working the land; get up close to the past and present of this grazing property, including a sheep shearing demonstration. With plenty of active wildlife to see up close, a salt water swimming pool and licensed restaurant Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge offers a bush holiday in style. The al fresco decking of the restaurant area offers a “gorge”ous setting to enjoy your meal. Discover the history of the Bundaberg sugar industry and the pioneer sugar families through a guided tour of the heritage listed homestead Fairymead House & Sugar History Museum. Then spend some time wandering the beautiful Botanic Garden. This afternoon you can choose to visit: the Bargara Brewing Co for a tour and tasting paddle OR Bundaberg Rum for a Tour and Rum Tasting.

Day 1 – Monday 4 June 2018
Early departure via coach from Lismore to Roma

This morning we make an early departure from the Northern Rivers and travel north via the Pacific Hwy to Logan River Parklands, our morning cuppa stop. We soon join the Logan Motorway, making our way through Ipswich and Toowoomba to Dalby where we’ll stop for a tasty picnic lunch. Mid-afternoon we’ll arrive in Miles to visit the Miles Historical Village, an amazing streetscape of more than 30 buildings which predominately cover a period in Queensland’s rural history from the late 1860’s to the 1950’s and have extensive local historic significance. We continue our journey to Roma, our home for tonight.

Day 2 – Tuesday 5 June 2018

After a hearty country breakfast, we travel through Mitchell to our morning break at Morven, then through Augathella to Blackall where we enjoy lunch then visit the Blackall Woolscour where, in the heart of merino country, local tour guides will take you back in time to experience the history of the wool industry and the vital role of woolscouring in Australia. Travelling on, we arrive in Barcaldine, where we first visit the Tree of Knowledge which has earned its claim to fame as the founding site of the political movement we now know as the Australian Labor Party. We then book into our Barcaldine accommodation.

Day 3 – Wednesday 6 June 2018
From Barcaldine to Winton to accomodation at Longreach

We have an early start this morning for the journey to Winton where we will visit the incredible Arno’s Wall which is made with everything including the kitchen sink. Next, we’ll have some time to explore the town before our highlight lunch at the grand old lady of the Outback, the North Gregory Hotel. This afternoon we’ll visit the Age of Dinosaurs Museum, home to the world’s largest collection of Australian dinosaur fossils. We return to Longreach, our home for the next 3 nights. Our dinner tonight is at the Welcome Centre.

Day 4 – Thursday 7 June 2018

Today you step into pioneer’s shoes and enjoy an unforgettable and entertaining insight into an iconic Australian way of life with traditions that stretch back 150 years. Set off on an original Cobb & Co Stagecoach along the original mail route to Windorah and hold your hat on a gallop through the bush. Watch the hilarious Harry Redford Old Time Tent Show, a tribute to the old travelling shows with slapstick, mayhem and animal antics. Later we visit the QANTAS Founder’s Museum which eloquently tells the story of Qantas through interpretive displays, interactive exhibits, original and replica aircraft and an impressive collection of genuine artefacts. Enjoy a guided tour of a Boeing 747 and 707.
Our final stop today is the Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre, Australia’s premier outback heritage institution. The museum, stunningly constructed from timber, stone and corrugated iron, is truly reminiscent of the outback. Inside, the Centre proudly displays the history behind some of Australia’s greatest and bravest explorers, stock workers, pastoralist, and Aborigines. Here we also enjoy the Outback Stockman’s Show and delicious spit roast dinner.
Day 5 – Friday 8 June 2018
Longreach sightseeing

This morning we’ll visit a working farm where you’ll step into the shoes of a family working the land; get up close to the past and present of this grazing property, including a sheep shearing demonstration. This afternoon you will enjoy some free time to explore Longreach CBD. This evening, enjoy a gentle sunset cruise down the majestic Thomson River, where birds flock home to roost on the riverbanks. Go ashore for a traditional stockman’s camp-fire dinner with inspiring and humorous traditional entertainment featuring our barefoot bush poet and the Starlight’s Spectacular Sound & Light Picture Show, a unique big screen presentation featuring the Kinnon family and locals in the amazing adventures of the notorious cattle thief known as ‘Captain Starlight’.
Day 6 – Saturday 9 June 2018
Depart Longreach via coach to Carnarvon Gorge

This morning we enjoy a hearty breakfast before departing via Jericho and Emerald to arrive at Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Lodge late in the afternoon.

We head towards the coast, today, travelling through the towns of Rolleston and Banana to our lunch break at Biloela. Later in the day we join the Bruce Hwy for the journey south to Bundaberg.

First this morning, be amazed by the awe inspiring, dynamic and unique structure of soaring glass and steel made in the shape of an aircraft wing at the Hinkler Aviation Museum. Set in the lush Bundaberg Botanic Gardens, the Hinkler Hall of Aviation brings to life the adventures and achievements of Australia’s famous pioneer solo aviator Bert Hinkler. Discover the history of the Bundaberg sugar industry and the pioneer sugar families through a guided tour of the heritage listed homestead Fairymead House & Sugar History Museum. We depart Bundaberg this morning for the journey home. We stop in Maryborough for morning tea then on to Nambour for lunch where we can think on our wonderful tour and all the new friends we have made. We arrive back in the Northern Rivers late in the afternoon.
